It contains the Kagera waterfalls, and the Nyakazu Fault.
Rutana Province is in the southeast of Burundi and borders Tanzania to the east.
The west of the province is in the Buragane natural region, the northwest in the Buyogoma natural region and the east in the Kumoso natural region.
