Ryōta Nakano

After leaving university, he was about 23 when he decided to be a filmmaker, and hadn't been a film fan before that time.

Upon leaving film school, he started off as an assistant director but lost confidence, deciding he was no good at it after being fired from his position in the middle of a shoot.

In order to do this, he went into heavy debt to finance Capturing Dad, which was made in 2012.

The film won awards and critical praise in Japan, which encouraged him to stick with the industry.

His next film was Her Love Boils Bathwater which won critical acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
