[1] The hijacking began after the plane stopped in Pereira, perpetrated by two former football players from Paraguay who initially claimed affiliation with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

[2] The hijackers, Eusebio Borja and Francisco "Toro" Solano López, confessed to the crew that their sole motivation was financial.

Solano López was apprehended at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport by Paraguayan police and subsequently extradited to Colombia.

[3] In 2024 Netflix released a drama series named The Hijacking of Flight 601  [es] (Spanish: Secuestro del vuelo 601).

The series is based on a book by the Italian writer Massimo Di Ricco named Los condenados del aire.
