SS Jupiter (Ropner, 1895)

[3] She was launched on 25 January 1895, the christening ceremony being performed by Miss Nancy Walker of Greatham.

The Code Letters NRGS and United Kingdom Official Number 99724 was allocated.

[4] In 1916, her owners were renamed Sir R. Ropner & Co. Ltd.[3] On 13 February 1918, Carperby collided with Svenska Lloyd's Italia in the North Sea 60 nautical miles (110 km) north east of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

[8] On 23 October 1939, Jupiter was captured by the Kriegsmarine in the North Sea 57°55′N 6°42′E / 57.917°N 6.700°E / 57.917; 6.700) whilst on a voyage from Karlskrona to Rochester, Kent and London, United Kingdom.

In December 1939, it was proposed to convert her to a minelayer, but she was commissioned as an accommodation ship in January 1940.
