SS William B. Woods

Woods was a Liberty ship built in the United States during World War II.

Woods, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and a member of the Ohio General Assembly.

Woods was laid down on 21 July 1942, under a Maritime Commission (MARCOM) contract, MC hull 1490, by J.A.

Jones Construction, Brunswick, Georgia; sponsored by Mrs.Emil J.Kratt, and launched on 7 April 1943.

On 10 March 1944, she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-952 near Palermo, Italy, 38°26′N 13°30′E / 38.43°N 13.50°E / 38.43; 13.50, with the loss of one US Navy Armed Guard and fifty-one US Army personnel.
