Saint-Nectaire, Puy-de-Dôme

Saint-Nectaire (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ nɛktɛʁ]; Auvergnat: Sant Nectare) is a commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne in central France.

[4] The legenda of Saint Nectarius record the site of a temple of Apollo on Mont Cornadore, converted into the basilica, of which the oldest structures still standing are of the eleventh century.

In the basilica is a characteristically Auvergnat Virgin and Child of the second half of the twelfth century.

The site's thermal springs, which would account for a healing shrine of Apollo, were extensively developed in the 19th century into a spa facility.

The château-fort, whose ruins survive near the church, gave its name to a feudal house holding distinguished rank in the 13th century but extinct in the 18th.
