The residential part of the suburb is in the local government area (LGA) of the City of Salisbury, however the eastern part of the Cobbler Creek Recreation Park is in the boundaries of the City of Tea Tree Gully.
Around three-quarters only spoke English at home, but a number of languages were better-represented in Salisbury East than the general South Australian population; these were Hazaragi (2.3% vs 0.4%), Hakha Chin (1.3% vs 0.1%), and Dari (1.2% vs 0.2%).
53.5% of Salisbury East residents reported being in the labour force, while 42.4% were not, compared to 60% and 35.5% for South Australia.
