[3] Besides local services, the Uzushio limited express between Okayama, Takamatsu and Tokushima also stops at the station.
A station building houses a waiting room and a JR ticket window (with a Midori no Madoguchi facility).
Parking is available on the station forecourt and a large bike shed is provided.
Sambommatsu Station was opened on 15 April 1928 as an intermediate stop when the track of the Kōtoku Line was extended eastwards to Hiketa from Sanuki-Tsuda.
With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, control of the station passed to JR Shikoku.
