San Joaquin is located 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Kerman,[8] at an elevation of 174 feet (53 m).

There were 934 housing units at an average density of 813.6 per square mile (314.1/km2),of which 882 were occupied, 406 (46.0%) by the owners and 476 (54.0%) by renters.

At the 2000 census there were 3,270 people in 702 households, including 636 families, in the city.

There were 735 housing units at an average density of 742.3 per square mile (286.6/km2).

As of March 2022, the current mayor of San Joaquin is Julia Hernandez.
