Located in the southern part of the county, it borders the following townships: Two villages are located in Sandy Township: part of Magnolia in the south, and Waynesburg in the southeast.
Statewide, the only other Sandy Township is located in Tuscarawas County.
It is named for the predominantly sandy soils of the area.
"Sandy Township (election at the residence of Isaac Van Meter), to include the fifteenth and sixteenth townships in the sixth range and sixteenth and seventeenth townships in the seventh range.
[7] The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
