As of 2011[update] census of India, Sathupalli Nagar panchayat had a population of 98,615 of which 45,257 were male and 45,319 female with a sex ratio of 1019 against state average of 993.
JVR OC-I started production as a Sathupalli opencast mine at a capacity of 0.7 MTPA in 2005 and was granted environmental clearance on 16 September 2004.
