Schalsum

Schalsum (West Frisian: Skalsum) is a village in Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands.

[3] The village was first mentioned in 1319 as Scalkessum, and means "settlement of the servant".

[4] Schalsum is a terp (artificial living hill) village, however the hill is of medium height and with a gentle slope and therefore, not apparent.

[6] The church used to be covered in ivy (Hedera helix) however it was removed in the 18th century.

[6] There is a restored windmill in the village, De Schalsumermolen.
