Schwarzbier

The oldest known black beer is Braunschweiger Mumme, ("Brunswick Mum") brewed since the Middle Ages (the first documented mention is from 1390 in Braunschweig.

Present-day eastern Germany has many unique varieties of this style from regional breweries.
