[10] On 3 September 2016, Ali was reinstated to his position following a judgment by the Administrative Tribunal-1.

According to the court's decision, he received his due salary, allowances, and retirement benefits.

In this role, his responsibilities include maintaining law and order in the metropolitan area and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

[11][12] After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government, Ali was included in the Police Reform Commission led by Safar Raj Hossain.

[13] On 20 November 2024, Ali was appointed as the Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on a contractual basis for two years.
