Shimsk

Shimsk (Russian: Шимск, IPA: [ʂɨmsk]) is an urban locality (a work settlement) and the administrative center of Shimsky District of Novgorod Oblast, Russia.

Shimsk lies on Shelon River, approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) upstream from the point where it drains into Lake Ilmen.

[7] A number of mineral water sources, notably the ones near the village of Uspolon, are located nearby.

[8] In the beginning of the 20th century, Shimsk, then a selo and known as Shimsky Perevoz, was the center of Shimskaya Volost of Novgorodsky Uyezd of Novgorod Governorate.

[12] Shimsk is located on the A116 highway which connects Veliky Novgorod and Porkhov (and continues to Pskov under a different code).
