Shisō, Hyōgo

Shisō (宍粟市, Shisō-shi) is a city in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.

[1] The total area of the city is 658.54 square kilometres (254.26 sq mi).

During the Edo Period, Yamasaki Domain under a cadet branch of the Honda clan ruled a portion of the territory.

In 1871, following the Meiji restoration, the area became part of Shisō District, Hyōgo and the town of Yamasaki was established with the creation of the modern municipalities system.

Shisō has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral city council of 16 members.

In terms of national politics, the city is part of Hyōgo 12th district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.
