Shule River

[1] Most of the water comes from 347 glaciers with a total area of 29.45 square kilometers in the upstream catchment.

The Shuangta Reservoir in the county flows into the Anxi-Dunhuang Basin, flows westward to the Changma Reservoir in Yumen City, and enters the Hala Lake in the Lop Nor desert after the confluence of Dang River in Dunhuang City.

[1] In 1734, a 30-kilometer-long channel was built in the Caotan of Yinmachang to divert water for irrigation.

[1] Historically, the Shule River has flowed into Lop Nur seasonally.

Due to excessive irrigation and diversion, the river can only flow to Hala Lake, which is 131 kilometers away from the Lop Nur Basin.
