Sidney Ashby Carroll (December 9, 1915 – May 7, 1995) was an American sports executive who served as general manager of the Washington Redskins of the National Football League from 1943 to 1947.
He lost his job when the closure of another Hearst paper resulted in a number of senior writers, including Bob Addie, joining the Times.
He worked for the Army and Navy Journal until 1936, when his former boss at the Times, George Preston Marshall, hired him to work for the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL).
[1] Carroll worked closely with Redskins general manager Jack Espey on the team's promotional efforts.
[3] In 1953, Carroll joined the Washington Times-Herald as a copy editor on its sports desk.
