Siegfried Kirschen

Siegfried Kirschen (13 October 1943 – 19 April 2024) was an East German football referee.

Kirschen was initially active himself as a junior footballer at SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt, passed his referee exams in 1961,[1] refereed 251 DDR-Oberliga games from 1972 to 1991 and on 17 May 1980, the FDGB Cup final between Carl Zeiss Jena and Rot-Weiß Erfurt, which ended 3–1 a.e.t.

A FIFA referee since 1979, Siegfried Kirschen took part in the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals in Mexico as an impartial referee for the DDR Football Association, officiating the preliminary round match between Northern Ireland and Brazil, 0–3 (0–2), and the quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium, 1–1 a.e.t.

[6] At the 1988 European Football Championship in the Federal Republic of Germany, he was entrusted with the management of the island derby England vs. Ireland, 0–1 (0–1).

[12] Kirschen, who worked professionally as a teacher and psychologist,[13] was chairman of the referee commission in the former district technical committee Frankfurt (Oder).
