Sir James Donaldson FRSE (26 April 1831 – 9 March 1915)[1] was a Scottish classical scholar, and educational and theological writer.
In 1854 he was appointed Rector of the Stirling High School where he remained for two years, before leaving for the Royal High School of Edinburgh, of which he was appointed Rector in 1866.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1867, his proposer being Alexander Keith Johnston.
[3] and is buried with his wife in the churchyard of St Andrews Cathedral.
He also has a memorial in the Church of St John the Evangelist, Edinburgh.
