[4] Common criticisms of Smolensk by Polish critics included its chaotic script and editing, poor acting, poorly written character roles, and propaganda nature.

[5][6] Negative reviews of the film on IMDb also cited purported factual inaccuracies and perceptions that it was insulting to the surviving families.

[3] The premiere of the film was attended by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and Jarosław Kaczyński, brother of President Lech Kaczyński who had died in the crash.
