Sophie d'Artois

Sophie d'Artois (5 August 1776 – 5 December 1783) was a member of the House of Bourbon as the elder daughter and second child of Princess Maria Theresa of Artois and Charles X of France.

Sophie d'Artois was born at the Palace of Versailles during the reign of her paternal uncle, Louis XVI.

She was known as Mademoiselle – a very prestigious style of address which was given to the most senior unmarried princess at the court of Versailles.

This rank of Grandchild, which immediately followed the Children of France allowed Sophie to use the style of Royal Highness, but she was always known as Mademoiselle.

She was buried at the Royal Basilica of Saint Denis outside Paris, the traditional burial place of Bourbon royalty.
