[2][3] The second chapter of the act establishes the South African Language Practitioners' Council.
The council is required to advance the promotion and protection of language practice in the country.
It is also empowered to advise the minister of sport, arts and culture on any matters affecting the language profession.
The council is also given the empowered by the act to protect the professional interests of language practitioners as well as the members of the public who make use of their services.
[4] The council is required to promote and provide the means for people, especially from indigenous communities, to enter and participate in the sector.
