The South East (often written as South-East) is the one of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria representing both a geographic and political region of the country's inland southeast.
It is divided between the Cross–Niger transition forests ecoregions in the south and the Guinean forest–savanna mosaic in the drier north.
[3] The zone has recently been plagued by crisis as the call for secession and the creation of the State of the Independent people of Biafra (IPOB) by the leader of the movement in person of Nnamdi Kanu.
Nnamdi Kanu has recently declared Biafra but some leaders have said that he does not represent the voice of the Igbo nation and that he lacks the capacity to do so.
[5] It is estimated that the sit-at-home in South East cost the geopolitical zone more than 7.6 trillion naira losses within two years.
