Spetchley railway station

The station opened on 24 June 1840 with the original portion of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway (B&GR), between Bromsgrove and Cheltenham.

The line in this area was on an ascending gradient of 1 in 300 towards Birmingham, but through Spetchley station it was level for 22.68 chains (456 m).

[1][2][3] The station buildings originally cost £2,716 but extensions and modifications before opening added a further £572.

This route was worked by the MR, and the road coaches between Spetchley and Worcester were withdrawn at the same time.

[12][13] As of 2010[update], an Up Goods Loop still exists at Spetchley, beginning 66 miles 46 chains (107.1 km) and ending 66 miles 12 chains (106.5 km) from Derby (London Road Junction).
