Sporting Club

Sporting Club consists of four principals: Clifford Illig (co-founder and vice-chairman of the Cerner board), Greg Maday (CEO of SpecChem), Robb Heineman (CEO of Sporting Club), and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who joined the ownership group in 2021.

[2] Pat Curran (founder of C3 Holdings) and Neal Patterson (CEO and co-founder of the Cerner Corporation) were prior partners before passing away in 2017,[3] and 2024, respectively.

In June 2007, Sporting Club opened a world-class training center at Swope Soccer Village.

The training facility was developed through a public-private partnership between the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department and Sporting Club.

SKC academy players have the opportunity to eventually join the Sporting Kansas City first team without going through the MLS draft process.
