Until the mid 19th century, Crakehall was part of the parish of St Gregory's Church, Bedale.
In 1840, a church was constructed in Great Crakehall, to a Gothic revival design by John Harper.
That year, George Fowler Jones reworked the interior, introducing new tiling and a new communion rail, prayer desk, pulpit, lectern and choir seats.
[1] The church is built of stone, with a Welsh slate roof.
It consists of a four-bay nave, a south porch and a single-bay chancel.
