Stege Town Hall

The Renaissance Revival style building was completed in 1854 to designs by Gottlieb Bindesbøll and served its original purpose for just over one hundred years.

The new town hall in Stege (Storegade 39) was constructed in 1854 to designs by Gottlieb Bindesbøll.

[2] Stege Town Hall is designed with inspiration from Dutch Renaissance architecture.

The two-storey building is constructed in red brick, with bands of local limestone between the upper and lower edges of the window frames.

The latter can be seen as a reference to other local landmarks, such as Stege Church and Mølleporten, but alternating horizontal bands of different colours had on the other hand already characterized several of Bindesbøll's earlier designs, including Hobro Kirke, Thisted Town Hall and Jydske Asyl.

The facade of the building features an avant-corps in the form of an octagonal tower topped by a copper-clad ogee dome.

The main entrance is accented by a portal tipped by a triangular pediment with pinnacles.
