The village of Stockbridge, which was settled soon after, served as the main population center.
[1] Lakelands Trail State Park runs through part of the township and has its westernmost trailhead within the village of Stockbridge.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 3,435 people, 1,220 households, and 941 families residing in the township.
There were 1,281 housing units at an average density of 35.9 per square mile (13.9/km2).
19.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
