A country house named Lille Lokkerup was located at the site at the beginning of the 18th century.
A later owner, royal mint master Christian Wieneken, renamed it Mariendal after his wife.

Store Mariendal was acquired by captain Knud Rasmussen in the late 1890s and converted into a hotel, restaurant, and music venue.
