"Street Hassle" is a song recorded by American rock musician Lou Reed for his 1978 studio album of the same name.
Part Three, "Slipaway," contains a brief, uncredited, spoken word section by Bruce Springsteen referencing his song "Born to Run" (from 9:02 to 9:39) and a dirge sung by Reed about love and death.
On the live album Animal Serenade (2004), Reed says: "I wanted to write a song that had a great monologue set to rock.
(DeCurtis also claimed that the second section of the song, "Street Hassle," was inspired by the mysterious 1975 death of Warhol performer and Max's Kansas City denizen Eric Emerson.
Street Hassle appears in Noah Baumbach's 2005 film The Squid and the Whale, where it plays over the last scene and the end credits.
