Students Aspire is a public artwork by American artist Elizabeth Catlett, located at 2300 6th Street NW on the Howard University campus in Washington, D.C., United States.
The raised hands are reaching towards a middle disk; part of a set of five which form an arch over the figures.
"[2] A plaque is placed on the wall just beneath the relief reading: Elizabeth Catlett was chosen to be the artist for this work by vote from faculty, staff and students of the College of Engineering.
The medallions are arranged in a triangle like branches and the plaque represents the roots.” She went on to say: “I was happy to have the suggestions of the faculty and students.
I listened to what they had in mind and then I incorporated that in my own way.” – Elizabeth Catlett[3]This sculpture was surveyed in 1993 for its condition and it was determined that treatment was needed.
