Nuling was a municipal district already[5][6] prior to its reorganization as one of the twenty-eight, in the then-undivided Cotabato province, through Executive Order No.

The town was part of the province of Shariff Kabunsuan from October 2006 until its nullification by the Supreme Court in July 2008.
