A reference of Kara Zor-El is seen in Man of Steel where Clark sees an empty space pod open in the Fortress of Solitude.
The original ending had Kara surviving to the new timeline, which was changed following the merger of WB and Discovery, as well as James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over and rebooting the franchise.
Gunn described the project as "a big science fiction epic film" and said it would explore a more "hardcore" version of Supergirl than had been previously seen on screen.
Kara is greatly reluctant to face Brainiac again, even with super powers, but eventually summons the courage to help her cousin fight him.
