Supreme Court of Lithuania

The current President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania is Danguolė Bublienė.

The origins of the supreme court can be traced back to the Lithuanian Tribunal established in 1581, as it became the judicial branch in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

[3] Initially, the law described the tribunal as the highest court of appeals, but it could also take cases concerning the president or any of the ministers.

A ruling passed by the court of cassation is final, cannot be appealed against and effective from the day of its adoption.

In the instances where a cassation case involves a complicated issue of interpretation or application of laws, the President of the Supreme Court, the Chairman of the relevant Division, or a panel of judges may forward the case to be heard by an extended panel of seven judges or by a plenary session of the relevant Division.
