Sveti Andrej, Škofja Loka

Sveti Andrej (pronounced [ˈsʋeːti anˈdɾeːi̯]; German: Sankt Andrä[2]) is a settlement in the Municipality of Škofja Loka in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia.

The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.

[2] The local church, built on a hill above the settlement, is dedicated to Saint Andrew.

The frescos in the sanctuary, behind the altar, and one on the exterior were painted by Jernej of Loka at the time the church was built and most of the remaining decoration is from the 17th century.
