Szymiszów

Szymiszów (Polish: [ʂɨˈmiʂuf]) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Strzelce Opolskie, within Strzelce County, Opole Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.

[1] It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) north-west of Strzelce Opolskie and 28 km (17 mi) south-east of the regional capital Opole.

It was the site of fighting during the Polish Third Silesian Uprising against Germany in 1921.

During World War II, the Germans operated the E130 forced labour subcamp of the Stalag VIII-B/344 prisoner-of-war camp at the local quarry.

[2] After the defeat of Germany in the war, in 1945, the village became again part of Poland and its historic name was restored.
