Tangiwai Shield

The Tangiwai Shield is a Test cricket series played between the men's cricket teams of New Zealand and South Africa.

It was launched in February 2024 during South Africa's tour of New Zealand.

[1] The trophy commemorates the tragic events of 1953,[2] when 151 people on the train from Wellington to Auckland on Christmas Eve - including Nerissa Love, the fiancé of New Zealand fast bowler Bob Blair - lost their lives in the rail disaster.

[3] The disaster coincided with the second Test between New Zealand and South Africa,[4] where Bob Blair was playing the match.
