Te Ākitai Waiohua is a Māori iwi of the southern part of the Auckland Region of New Zealand.

[2] Kiwi Tāmaki was killed in battle with Te Taoū hapū (sub-tribe) of Ngāti Whātua in the mid-18th century.

Ngāti Whātua settled in Tāmaki and the Waiohua retreated to Drury, Pōkeno, Kirikiri/Papakura, Ramarama and other parts of South Auckland.

[5][4] In the 1820s Ngāpuhi of Northland acquired muskets and attacked Tāmaki, leading the local tribes to retreat to the Waikato.

Tribal land at Māngere was confiscated and Pepene Te Tihi, Ihaka, his wife and three children were arrested.
