Tejashwi Prasad Yadav (born 9 November 1989) is an Indian politician and former professional cricketer who served as the 5th Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from 10 August 2022 to 28 January 2024.
[26] The election also resulted in an overwhelming majority for the alliance in the assembly,[27] which led to Yadav being appointed the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and received the portfolios of public works, forestry and environment in the 5th Nitish Kumar cabinet.
[11][28] In 2017, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a probe in relation to money laundering in a 2004 corruption case involving the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, against Yadav and other members of his family including his parents Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav.
[20][31] Subsequently, Yadav became the leader of opposition owing to the Rashtriya Janata Dal being the largest party in the state legislature.
[32][33] In response to the case lodged against him, Yadav accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of abusing government machinery to carry out political schemes.
[34] In 2018, he was granted relief in the case by the Delhi High Court after maintaining he could not have played a role as the allegation was leveled on him at a time when he was only 14 years old.
[32][36] Upon appointment, he issued an official apology addressing the people of Bihar for "lapses and mistakes" that may have been committed by the party during its tenure in the state government and that he himself was unaware of them being too young at the time.
[38] Yadav led the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Mahagathbandhan.
[39] In 2024, Nitish Kumar left the Mahagathbandhan and formed the government with BJP, effectively terminating Yadav's tenure as deputy chief minister once again.
This decision was made by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national executive committee, effectively establishing Tejashwi as the de facto president of the party.
