Built in 1927, Thomas House is one of three hotels remaining from the early-20th century resort boom at Red Boiling Springs.
[3] Early in this decade, New York businessman James F. O. Shaughnessy purchased the Red Boiling Springs tract and began development of the area as a resort.
This was a two-storey white weatherboard structure with long two storey verandas, similar to the Donoho Hotel that still stands today.
[5] The hotel gained notoriety in the early half of the 2010s when it became the subject of several television programs investigating paranormal activity, including the SyFy channel television program Ghost Hunters.
Ghost hunts have since remained a popular tourist attraction for the town.
