Thomas Lyle Martin Jr.

Thomas Lyle Martin Jr. (September 26, 1921 – October 8, 2009) served as president of the Illinois Institute of Technology (ITT) from 1974 to 1987.

[1] During the Second World War, he served in the US Army, rising to the rank of captain.

He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1942 and a master's in 1948.

He went on to obtain a PhD degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
