[6] When he was in sixth grade of primary school, he moved to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province due to his parents' work.
Both of his parents worked at Zhejiang University where his father was in the School of Public Affairs while his mother was in the Department of Chemistry.
[2] Due to his performance, he received a recommendation to attend Tsinghua University at the department of Computer Science and Technology.
[4] Lou was part of the university team in the 2007 and 2009 International Collegiate Programming Contest which won second place both times.
[2][6] After earning his PhD from Tsinghua University in 2012, Lou joined Google as an engineer and in 2015 worked in their autonomous vehicle team.
