He was educated at Uppingham School and then Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, graduating with a BA degree and later proceeding to MA.
[3] He held this position until 7 August 1995, when he was appointed Chester Herald of Arms in Ordinary.
[4] He was appointed Norroy and Ulster King of Arms on 1 July 2014.
[2][5] On 1 April 2021, he was appointed Clarenceux King of Arms in succession to Patric Dickinson.
[6] In that role, he proclaimed the accession of Charles III from the Royal Exchange in the City of London on 10 September 2022,[7] and took part in the Royal Procession at the Coronation of Charles III and Camilla.
