Former Liverpool undercover police detective Jim Worth is the seemingly gentle police chief of Little Big Bear, a small town at the edge of the Canadian Rockies, where he has settled his family of four.

He and his wife Angela prompt Jim's alcoholic and violent former identity Jack Devlin to resurface, enabling him to eliminate anyone they suspect of trying to hurt their family.
