[4] Withers attended Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville, North Carolina, where he was a member of the basketball, football, tennis and track and field teams.
[6] As a senior in 2017–18, Withers was named an All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), becoming the first Royal to receive the honor since 2004.
The team went 32–4, compiling the program's best record, and won the Southeast Regional title to advance to the Elite Eight of the 2018 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament for the first time since 2003.
[10] He subsequently returned to Grand Rapids for the 2019–20 season and averaged 10.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 42 games.

[15] After initially signing in Lithuania with Rytas Vilnius,[16][17][18] Withers joined the Texas Legends of the NBA G League on December 26, 2022.
On August 30, 2024, he signed with the Wildcats on a nominated replacement player (NRP) contract for the 2024–25 NBL season.
