[1][2][3] Powell participated in the Auskick program at Concordia, South Australia[4] and began his junior football at the Unley Jets Football Club in Kingswood, South Australia.
[5] He began studying at Scotch College in Adelaide when he reached Year 8.
He played with Sturt in the South Australian National Football League, participating in 4 games which he all won.
[6] He averaged 24.3 disposals a game,[7] and won the McCallum Tomkins Medal for the best player in the SANFL Under 18s.
[8] Powell debuted in the opening round of the 2021 AFL season,[9] where North Melbourne suffered a loss at the hands of Port Adelaide.
