Despite this design flaw, the vehicles served well the Selous Scouts in their operations and even after the disbandment of the unit in 1980 they remained at the service of the new Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) for several more years.

An UR-416 of the Togolese contingent of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was also ambushed and destroyed by the Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin on 29 May 2016.
