[citation needed] In the 1902 Coronation Honours, he was raised to the peerage as Baron Shuttleworth, of Gawthorpe, in the County Palatine of Lancaster.
[citation needed] Lord Shuttleworth married Blanche Marion, daughter of Sir Woodbine Parish, in 1871.
[6] His granddaughter by his youngest daughter Catherine was Freydis Sharland, an Air Transport Auxiliary pilot during the Second World War and one of the first women to earn RAF wings.
