"Royal School of Medicine"), was officially opened by Sultan Abdulhamid II on his birthday, 6 November 1903.

[3] Gülhane Hospital's active presence began in 1909, when its physicians, who had been transferred to the newly established Faculty of Medicine, formed the majority of the academic staff.

During World War I, the hospital played a crucial role in providing healthcare to the Ottoman Army and treating wounded soldiers from the Battle of Gallipoli.

As the facilities became inadequate, a decision was made in 1963 to construct a modern hospital complex in the Etlik, Ankara.
